Dear PS 15 Families, Happy Juneteenth!
Many thanks to Ms. Bethea and Ms. Mendez for preparing a resource for our community. Please do continue to explore this resource specific to Juneteenth, as well as the full resource shared by our Diversity Committee earlier this month to support your child with the complex, emotional, and important conversations that are being had in homes across our country, and the world. The Diversity Committee resource is here: English and Espanol.
Speaking of resources, a special thanks to Ms. Dervish, Ms. Sirotniak and Ms. Konarski. They have prepared Summer Playlists for our community. Prek-2 here and 3-5 here. These resources are in this shared drive and will be available all summer to support continued growth, exploration, learning and discovery.
We understand the uncertainty that we are all experiencing and the anxiety that is causing.
PS 15 will submit a proposed plan for re-opening in September at the end of June, based on your feedback. Please do fill out our PS 15 Family Survey to provide us with valuable feedback regarding your remote learning experience this spring and what will work best for your family in the fall. English version here, Espanol aqui. Please also fill out this survey from the Department of Education to make your voice heard.
As a reminder, one way the Department of Education will be communicating with families is via the MySchools Account application. Report Cards will be automatically generated and sent to these accounts. You can also use information in your MySchools Account to screenshot information that may be needed for proof of enrollment with various service agencies. It is vital that all families have a MySchools account. The information to set up your account is here: https://www.schools.nyc.gov/learning/in-our-classrooms/nyc-schools-account. If you need assistance, please contact Ms. Johnson, our parent coordinator. If you do not currently have a MySchools account, contact Ms. Johnson and she will give you an access code to set it up.
In addition to the MySchools account, the Department of Education has approved the use of email to send needed student records in the rare case a MySchools Account is not accessible. Please be sure your email address is on file with your child’s teacher. If you do not have an email, please ensure your most up to date phone number is on file with your child’s current teacher. Communication will be necessary as we prepare for September once more guidance on school opening becomes available. We will communicate during the summer via robo-calls from the main office, emails, and communication via our website: ps15k.org.
Finally, public assistance such as EBT and Snap, are not requiring proof of enrollment for services. For all public assistance, you can go to your HRA, Human Resource Administration Office, and access needed services there without a ‘Face to Face’ School Letter. If you require assistance, please contact Ms. Johnson.
We are looking forward to celebrations next week! Links to some grade level celebrations will be provided by your child’s teacher such as Final Assembly for fifth grade as well as Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten moving up.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to us. The school phone is checked daily (718-330-9280), you can reach our Parent Coordinator, Melissa Johnson at 917-669-0508 or email@example.com, or Ms. Cavanagh, our assistant principal, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Ms. Madison, Ms. Johnson, and Ms. Cavanagh will be available throughout the summer, so please do not hesitate to leave a message on the school phone, email us, or call Ms. Johnson.
I want to end this last newsletter of the 2019-2020 with profound thanks and gratitude to every family, partner, and staff member that makes PS 15 a magical experience. To our fifth graders: it has been my honor to watch you grow and achieve over the years and I wish you a lifetime of success and happiness. I am so fortunate to serve and work with you all.
Families: our PTA this year has done amazing work, there will be vacancies on the PTA executive board for the 2020-2021 school year. I strongly, and humbly, encourage you to throw your hat in the ring! Our school community is at our strongest when we collaborate. I look forward to our continued collaboration, and the magic, in whatever blended learning schedule we are faced with in September.
Finally, Happy Father’s Day to all who celebrate and identify with the role of father. To those who mourn their fathers, we sit with you, for those who fulfill the role we salute you, and to those in beautifully diverse households where “typical” roles do not apply, we see you.
Please be well and safe,
Technology and Distance Learning Support!
Zoom Troubles? Some folks have had difficulty re-joining Zoom. A few tips: students must confirm the switch in their DOE email. Go to gmail.com and log in with your child’s @nycstudents account to access your child’s email. When using a smartphone or ipad, the SSO option is the option to select when prompted the first time logging into Zoom on the new platform. For more support, the Department of Education maintains an infohub for parents with support links, videos, etc: https://www.schools.nyc.gov/learn-at-home/technical-tools-and-support
Please use this sheet to request assistance with technology, a PS 15 volunteer will reach out to you directly: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSep6sHgAPoMpDcvRoHEb8kCh31vqHLM9Ww5dYRLFOamq_Qdkg/viewform?usp=sf_link
