Dear family,
Do you have a current kindergarten through 8th grade student and looking for a free and safe program for the summer? If so, Summer Rising may be right for your student!
Summer Rising is a partnership between New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) and the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) that provides students with academic and enrichment programming for up to 8 hours per day over the course of 6-7 weeks.
Here are some key dates to be aware of as you move through the process:
Tuesday, March 3, 2026: Summer Rising Application Opens
Friday, March 27, 2026: Summer Rising Application Closes
Tuesday, April 21, 2026: Summer Rising Results Release and Waitlists Open
Tuesday, May 5, 2026: Summer Rising Offer Response Deadline
Although the application is not open yet, the most important thing you can do now is to make sure your MySchools account is properly set up.
Don’t have an account? Contact your child’s current school to get their student ID number and account creation code. Once you have this information you can create a MySchools account (if you don’t already have one) and add your child.
If you already have a MySchools account, you do not need to create a new one. If you see a blue box that states your child’s information needs to be verified, please contact your child’s school for support.
How to add your child to your account:
On your dashboard, click “Add a child”.
Select the option that says “NYC residents applying to middle school, high school, Grades 1-4 Gifted & Talented, or Summer Rising programs”.
Enter your child’s 9-digit student ID number (OSIS) and unique account creation code (this is different from your NYCSA code). You can contact your school to request this information. Once this is completed you will be all set for when the application opens!
If you’re applying for more than one child you can add them all to the same MySchools account! No need to have separate accounts for your children.
Have questions? Talk to your school counselor or visit the website at schools.nyc.gov/SummerRising.
Best,
