Dear PS 15 Families,
As we prepare for the close of the school year, I want to ensure you will have access to all of the information you will need. This week the Chancellor began releasing preliminary information regarding what school may look like in September. We are living with a great deal of uncertainty at this time. Please know, as we are updated, we will share information as quickly as possible. We will also be sending out a survey to gather your feedback. In addition, I hope to see as many parents and guardians as possible at the PTA meeting on June 17th at 3:00 PM, PTA will share the link on our website and other media and our staff will post the link to join in our virtual classrooms.
One way the Department of Education will be communicating with families is via the MySchools Account application. Report Cards will be automatically generated and sent to these accounts. You can also use information in your MySchools Account to screenshot information that may be needed for proof of enrollment with various service agencies. It is vital that all families have a MySchools account. The information to set up your account is here: https://www.schools.nyc.gov/learning/in-our-classrooms/nyc-schools-account. If you need assistance, please contact Ms. Johnson, our parent coordinator. If you do not currently have a MySchools account, contact Ms. Johnson and she will give you an access code to set it up.
In addition to the MySchools account, the Department of Education has approved the use of email to send needed student records in the rare case a MySchools Account is not accessible. Please be sure your email address is on file with your child’s teacher. If you do not have an email, please ensure your most up to date phone number is on file with your child’s current teacher. Communication will be necessary as we prepare for September once more guidance on school opening becomes available. We will communicate during the summer via robo-calls from the main office, emails, and communication via our website: ps15k.org.
Finally, public assistance such as EBT and Snap, are not requiring proof of enrollment for services. For all public assistance, you can go to your HRA, Human Resource Administration Office, and access needed services there without a ‘Face to Face’ School Letter. If you require assistance, please contact Ms. Johnson.
I am looking forward to seeing smiling faces as we prepare of our virtual Final Assembly for our fifth graders transitioning to middle school and for our Prekindergarteners and Kindergarteners moving up! The link for the Final Assembly will be shared ahead of June 22nd. Fifth grade students and their family in their homes will be able to login using Zoom. If you do not have a Zoom account that is working and need assistance, please do let us know as soon as possible by filling out this form. We are working on a way to hopefully also make a livestream link available for family outside of your homes, stay tuned. Prekindergarten and Kindergarten students will have their moving up celebrations in a virtual class session. Please do check in with your child’s teacher to ensure your technology will be accessible.
Finally, I hope to see parents and guardians at the PTA meeting on Wednesday
Please do not hesitate to reach out to us. The school phone is checked daily (718-330-9280), you can reach our Parent Coordinator, Melissa Johnson at 917-669-0508 or email@example.com, or Ms. Cavanagh, our assistant principal, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please be well and safe,
Technology and Distance Learning Support!
Zoom Troubles? Some folks have had difficulty re-joining Zoom. A few tips: students must confirm the switch in their DOE email. Go to gmail.com and log in with your child’s @nycstudents account to access your child’s email. When using a smartphone or ipad, the SSO option is the option to select when prompted the first time logging into Zoom on the new platform. For more support, the Department of Education maintains an infohub for parents with support links, videos, etc: https://www.schools.nyc.gov/learn-at-home/technical-tools-and-support
Please use this sheet to request assistance with technology, a PS 15 volunteer will reach out to you directly: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSep6sHgAPoMpDcvRoHEb8kCh31vqHLM9Ww5dYRLFOamq_Qdkg/viewform?usp=sf_link
